otoplasty – the basics
Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. The operation is done on children between the ages of four and 14. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure.

the Procedure
Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient. The otoplasty procedure usually takes 1-2 hours and is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. You can return to work in 7 days. A headband is worn for many weeks following the otoplasty procedure.

“I recommend American Institute for Plastic Surgery with 5 stars. Every step of the way through my journey, I was met with compassion and kindness. I’ve had a couple of questions pre and post surgery and I was able to talk to a nurse either immediately or with a prompt return call.”
